The discussions of vehicles on this site primarily focuses on light-duty vehicles. There are, however, options for greening medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. Hybrid technology is increasingly being applied to the medium- and heavy-duty sectors. Biodiesel and natural gas are cleaner burning and less greenhouse gas intensive fuels for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and equipment. In addition, EPA's SmartWay program, the West Coast Collaborative and the non-profit Cascade Sierra Solutions focus on reducing emissions and fuel use in heavy-duty trucks using a host of technology solutions.
